Born and raised in Hamilton, Ont. – one of Canada’s musical hotspots — singer-songwriter Vili V (Vili Verhovsek) is an alchemist blending adult contemporary, Americana and lyric-based genres. His voice is at once powerful and tender, with singular depth and expression.

“I can’t compare him to anyone else,” says Paul Reimans, an acclaimed local producer who’s worked with Vili. Critics and fans have described his songwriting as “meticulously, elegantly crafted” and “mysterious.”

Vili first emerged in the ‘90s, putting his spin on nostalgic pop music of the 20th Century. In 1996, amid a field of industry veterans, he placed first at the largest Elvis festival in world, based in Collingwood, Canada. Around that time, he also made the top ten at the YTV Achievement Awards.

Eager to master other styles, Vili immersed himself in jazz and classical music at Mohawk College, touring Europe before graduation. In 2002 he released his debut original album Indigo Blue, featuring seven-time CCMA guitarist of the year Wendel Ferguson, legendary producer and bassist Bob Doidge and Juno nominated Colin James band alumni Jesse O’Brien on keyboards. The album was released through Sextant/EMI Music Canada.

Since then, Vili has performed for and with many famous entertainers including: viral comedian Russell Peters, country legend George Hamilton IV, three-time Grammy winner Walter Ostanek, Glass Tiger frontman Alan Frew, hip-hop artist Maestro Fresh Wes, the cast of The Sopranos and Elvis Presley’s original vocal group The Jordanaires.

Still, Vili makes touring, songwriting and recording a priority. His original-music album The Journey was released in 2007, and he performed with the 60-piece Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra soon thereafter.

In 2013, Vili recorded an album of Roy Orbison classics with producer-engineer Majin FoulSpice, and recently Vili was recognized by the 2016 UK Songwriting Competition for five of his songs. As a father, husband and successful musician, Vili loves to inspire people to make the world a more loving and compassionate place. As such, Vili is currently planning a new album of original songs that will do just that.
